Matthew Alec
Matthew Alec is a jazz and pop saxophonist, founder and Executive Producer at Cleveland Time
Records, and bandleader for the all-star fusion group Matthew Alec and The Soul Electric.
Recently voted as #19 on All About Jazz’s 2024 “Favorite Living Saxophonists” poll, he has
performed with former Saturday Night Live Musical Director and Blues Brothers bandsman Tom
“Bones” Malone, internationally acclaimed bassist Victor Wooten and brother Roy “Futureman”
Wooten, SNL trombonist Steve Turre, Ohio Players’ Billy Beck, Parliament-Funkadelic bassist
Ben Powers, Jr. and he has recorded with Rock Hall inductee Bernie Worrell and Tom “Bones”
Malone. Opening performances for several A-list acts like Earth, Wind, and Fire, Incubus,
Robert Randolph and The Family Band, Keane, Average White Band, Lupe Fiasco, J Holiday,
and OAR.
His debut album as a leader Cleveland Time dropped in 2021 and charted for several weeks on
jazz radio and received international love from Jazziz Magazine, All About Jazz,
JazzMonthly.com, SoulTracks.com, Broadway World, WBSS Media, Glide Magazine, and
Cleveland.com. His composition “Blues for McCoy” from the album was a Semi-Finalist in the
International Songwriting Competition and one of All About Jazz’s most “Popular Jazz Songs”
for 2021.
Since Cleveland Time’s release, Alec has gone on to release two additional live albums, Live at
the Bop Stop! (also featuring Malone) and Soul Jazz Classics: Live in 2018. Alec is sponsored
