Heavy Metal Chess Club

Heavy Metal Chess Club narrates core memories with an unapologetic attitude and a requited edge. Breathing new life into the Philly emo scene, HMCC made their debut in 2023 with single “Sorry I Made it Weird,” growing their audience throughout the local DIY community ever since. Joined by Alex Watson (bass) and Jackson Searfoss (drums), singer/guitarist leads Henry Hammer and Clara Wawrzyn helm the band with a shared desire to portray their experiences navigating mental health, maturing, partying, romance, and more. Inspired by midwest emo and alt-rock icons Oso Oso, Foxing, The Smashing Pumpkins, and Black Country, New Road, HMCC stands out for their emotive storytelling and hair-raising live performance. Combining jet-fueled guitar riffs with austere vocal tenseness, the band curates a striking, original sound nourished by the emo revival music they were raised on. Heavy Metal Chess Club emits an undeniable energy that demands attention and generates excitement in everything they create.
