The Bizarros

The Bizarros have been in existence since January 1976. In the seventies, when New Wave was popular, The Bizarros were an integral part of the Akron Scene—an anomaly that was heard from the U.S. to Liverpool and all the way to Japan. The Bizarros released three records on the independent Clone label and contributed a song on the Akron Compilation album released in Europe by Stiff Records.

The Bizarros attracted the attention of Mercury Records after Robert Christgau awarded their From Akron album an A- and ‘pick-of-the-month’ in his Village Voice review. The band recorded an album for Mercury Records titled Bizarros in 1978. The Bizarros’ music was years ahead of its time.

The Bizarros have been back together since 2001. The label New Wave is now called Alternative. The energy of the original Bizarros’ songs is still there, however, a maturity and simplicity of style have blended to produce a powerful, but easy to listen to, sound. The Bizarros write songs with melodies that people remember. New Wave fans and New Generation Alternative fans alike can relate to the evolved Bizarros sound.
